At the ISA Annual Convention (Toronto, March 28–30, 2019), I presented this paper arguing that power-sharing arrangements produce systematically uneven effects on political legitimacy. I distinguished between groups that are included in power-sharing deals, those that are symbolically diminished by them, and those that remain excluded — showing that each category generates distinct legitimacy perceptions with different conflict implications.
