At the NCCR Democracy Final Conference (Zurich, June 15, 2017), I presented this co-authored paper with Daniel Bochsler introducing a framework for understanding how power-sharing arrangements can simultaneously reduce violence and reproduce ethnic divisions. We argued that these two effects are not mutually exclusive, and that the trade-off between them is central to evaluating power-sharing as a conflict management strategy.
