Constructing the Nation: The Identity Basis of Majority Nationalist Movements — Jan Tinbergen Conference 2024

At the 23rd Jan Tinbergen European Peace Science Conference (Dublin City University, June 17–19, 2024), I presented this co-authored paper with Lars-Erik Cederman in the "Ethnicity" session (chaired by Scott Gates), investigating the identity foundations — ethnic, cultural, and civic — that underpin majority nationalist movements and how these shape their political trajectories. We showed that the identity basis of nationalist mobilization has systematic effects on the likelihood and form of intergroup conflict.
