In this interview with Reformiert (July 2021), I explained the difference between corporate and liberal power-sharing models and what each means for minority communities. I argued that corporate approaches — such as ethnic quotas or guaranteed veto rights, as used in Bosnia and Lebanon — provide strong protection for the groups explicitly included, but generate "inclusion envy" among smaller minorities left outside the arrangement. I also discussed how majority backlash against power-sharing is increasing across many countries, and why forcing majority populations into inclusive governance can sometimes backfire by enabling exclusionary forces to mobilise against the system.
