At the 120th APSA Annual Meeting (Philadelphia, September 5–8, 2024), I co-presented this paper with Lars-Erik Cederman examining how dominant nationalist movements — ideologies seeking ethnic political supremacy — drive civil war through exclusion, repression, and reactive separatist mobilization. Using new actor-centered data on governing nationalist movements, we showed that rising ethno-political inequality under nationalist rule systematically elevates the risk of civil conflict.
