Between the Hammer and the Anvil? Majority Nationalism, Minority Accommodation, and Civil War — SPSA Annual Congress 2024

At the SPSA Annual Congress 2024 (University of St. Gallen, February 8–9), I co-presented this paper with Lars-Erik Cederman examining how minority groups caught between majority nationalist pressures and limited accommodation face elevated risks of civil violence. We used large-N cross-national data to demonstrate that the interaction between nationalist pressure from above and accommodation failure from the state is a particularly dangerous combination for minority security.
