At the 21st Jan Tinbergen European Peace Science Conference (King's College London, June 20–22, 2022), I both presented and chaired the session in which this paper appeared, examining the conditions under which majority communities backlash against policies of minority accommodation. I argued that the intensity of backlash depends critically on perceived status threats and on the presence of political entrepreneurs willing to mobilize majority resentment.
